Alright, I normally refrain from politics on here, but I have to chime in.
The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
A militia is not just a group of armed citizens who drills on the commons once a week. A militia is a group of armed citizens. Period. This is necessary to the security of a free state. This was not a Constitutional provision to keep hunting alive! To win our freedom, Colonial citizens had to pick up the weapons of war and use them. This right shall not be infringed! Period! The founding fathers didn't add specifications, like round limitations, or type of musket, etc. They wanted the population to be armed with the same weapons any tyrannical government could be armed with!
But, this amendment has constantly been chipped away at since its inception, and it has been infringed upon.
Now, in the wake of a string of mass homicides, including the horribly tragic Sandy Hook Elementary incident, our government seeks to disarm us. "Oh, no, they don't want to disarm us! They just want to remove military-grade weapons." Great, so they take military-grade weapons away from us, but could themselves use military-grade weapons against us. That is not freedom. That is tyranny. I read an article the other day where the Department of Homeland Security place an enormous order for ammunition. Small arms ammunition mostly. They also placed a massive order for assault weapons, labeling them "personal defense weapons". I want a "personal defense weapon"! I want to defend my person. As an American, I should be able to defend myself in the same way anyone else is able to. President Obama has 24/7 security for him and his family, but we're not allowed to defend our own families with the same type of weapons? *expletive deleted* that *expletive deleted*!
"But guns kill people! Guns kill innocent little children!" NO, you *expletive deleted* moron! A deranged man killed a bunch of people, and used a gun as a tool. He could have beaten them with a baseball bat or run them over with a car. Speaking of which, cars kill more people per year than guns do, and nobody is blaming society. They blame the responsible driver! But, the government can still control us if we have cars. We can't shoot 30 of them at a time with a car. No, that argument does not fly with me. My sweet, innocent, 5-yr old cousin was killed in a car wreck and NO ONE in my family cried out for the ban of cars.
No, Americans should be free to have assault weapons, a tank if they can afford it, etc. because that's exactly the type of weapon a tyrant would use against us. That is why we are free! This topic of debate boils my blood, and the sheer stupidity of some people makes their argument invalid. That is all.
